Brilliant! This may be your best animation yet. It's a wonderful blend of art and mathematics. Escher's works are a treasure trove of visually stunning mathematics. I hope you continue to animate it. Several years ago Penrose announced a book titled Eschermatics that explains the math behind the art. The book is scheduled to be released next year. It may be a source of inspiration.

Gorgeous! This is definitely one of my favorite videos you have ever done. I think I can mostly figure out who animated what (although they do blend together well). Was Paul Dancstep the one who animated the rearranging of the grid from rectangular coordinates to the distorted ones (seen around the 9-minute mark)? It's a very nice effect.
